Our Story

The Advent is a community in formation.

Our Story:
The Church of the Advent began as a burden on the heart of Dale Brown, a native of Atlanta. In 2005 Dale began his ministry when he was ordained a deacon in the Anglican Church. He served as a deacon in several small churches around the city but had a growing passion to plant a church in the heart of Atlanta, where he perceived a huge need for the love of Christ. Dale gathered a team of like-minded friends and with the support of their home church Trinity Anglican, began the process of planting a new church. In September of 2009, Dale was ordained as a priest in the Anglican Mission, and The Advent began its ministry in the city.

The Advent is ultimately the result of a call from God to live out the life of Jesus Christ in the city of Atlanta. We seek to be a group of praying people – praying for our neighbors, our city, and our world. We seek to be an active people, rooted in Scripture and informed by our historic faith, working to bring about the kingdom of God on earth, as it is in heaven.

Mission Statement:
The Advent exists to bring the City of Atlanta into the fullness of the transforming Love of God revealed in Jesus Christ.

Our Values:
The Presence of God
Conversion of Life
Bearing Witness to Christ

Our Name:
Advent is not just a season on the Church calendar but a significant theological truth. Advent means, “appearing.” And the Church talks about Jesus’ first and second coming as His advents. Our church has taken the name Advent because of its theological implications. For the vocation of all Christians is to implement Jesus’ first advent while at the same time anticipating His second.
